Description

Forward Controls Design OPF-G Trijicon RMR Optic plate for Glock MOS

NOTE:

OPF-G, RMR is compatible with RMR, SRO, and the new RMR HD and RCR.  If your RMR, RMR HD, and SRO come with sight to plate 6-32 screws, be sure to only use the 3/8" screws, do not use longer 1/2: screws.

Do not use our sight to plate screws with Holosun sights.  The screws we supply are for Trijicon RMR and SRO only.  From October of 2023, we've begun to transition T10 sight to plate screws to T15.

OPF-G, RMR is designed for GLOCK's MOS and Trijicon RMR and SRO.  If you use a Holosun and the long set of screws with OPF-G, RMR, you will risk damaging the plate.  Holosun sights have 90 degree countersink screw holes, while RMR and SRO use 82 degree countersink.  In addition, the supplied RMR sight to plate screws (6-32 x 3/8) are longer than what Holosun includes.  Do not use our sight to plate screws with Holosun sights.

Our plates are made in ordnance grade 4140 steel, but it's not immune to user induced abuse.  This can happen if the wrong Holosun screws are used with our plate.

Due to the +/- 0.005 tolerance of RMR and SRO, the plate may need to be fitted in order for the sight to fully seat.  This should not be considered a drop in part.

Trijicon's tolerance between the recoil lugs to the front radiused edge of the RMR is +/- 0.005.  While every OPF-G, RMR has been tested on our RMR and SRO, there is always a chance it might not fit your RMR/SRO without fitting.  OPF-G, RMR's design cradles the sight tightly on the plate between the plate's front and rear fences,  some fitting may be required.  A competent gunsmith can do it easily if you're uncomfortable with fitting the plate to your sight.

OPF-G, RMR is compatible with G17, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 26, 40, 45, 47, 49 and 40.  Both RMR and OPF-G, RMR are wider than G17, G17, G45, G47 and G34, and have a slight overhang on both sides of the slide.  On 1.08" and 1.12" wide slides, the overhangs are gone.  The front two corners for the plate don't match the wider slide's contours, this is but cosmetics.  For more info, please visit this page: G20, G21, G22 Compatibility

OPF-G, RMR (Optics Platform, GLOCK, for RMR) is a GLOCK MOS Adapter Set 01 and Set 02 compatible plate for mounting Trijicon RMR or SRO on GLOCK Gen 4 and Gen 5 slides, G17, G19, G20, G21 G34, G35, G41, G45, G47 (width 25mm/1 inch.) and G40 that uses Set 02.  GLOCK's OEM MOS plate's width matches that of the slide, but OPF-G, RMR is already wider to fully support the RMR, thus it is compatible with all MOS equipped GLOCK slides.

We like the GLOCK MOS concept, even if we find the factory MOS adapter plates could use some help.  Standards, commonality, availability of parts are all good things.  Heretofore, users have had to send in their slides to be milled to accept mini red dot sights, or opt for 3rd party optics ready slides.  The time it takes to send in the slides to be milled, and varying quality of the milling work and optics ready slides notwithstanding, there was a lack a standard regarding the sight height, it'd be a coincidence if two slides milled by two different shops share the same sight height.   GLOCK 's MOS may not sit as low as some, but in our opinion, what MOS offers more than makes up for it, namely a uniform sight height, ease of installation, parts commonality and availability.

OPF-G, RMR is a collaboration with a USMC combat veteran and former USMC Shooting Team head coach, Tom Shields. We used GLOCK 's MOS adapter plates as a basis, and designed our version of what we think it should and can be.

OPF-G, RMR's shape follows its functions, same as all of our products.  We outlined the following objectives:
1. Sight is to be fully supported in the front and rear by recoil lugs/fences, with minimum movement.
2. Eliminate the need to use an additional sealer plate.
3. Correct length sight to plate, and plate to slide screws.  Screws are to be Torx.
4. Adapter plate is to be machined in steel.

OPF-G, RMR accomplishes all of the goals outlined above.  Machined in 4140 steel, and black nitrided,  OPF-G, RMR's thickness is unchanged from that of the GLOCK MOS plate, it doesn't change the sight's mounted height, nor does it require different iron sights.

OPF-RMR is shipped with plate to slide screws (M3-0.5mm x 6mm, same GLOCK MOS cover plates screws are also usable), four sight to plate screws (6/32 x 3/8), and a VC3 packet.

Weight: 0.86oz
Plate to slide torque value: 13in/lb
Sight to plate torque value: 13in/lb

Material: 4140, black nitride, or 17-4 stainless steel, black nitride for salt water divers, or high humidity environments.

Proudly designed and made in USA.

OPF-G,RMR supports the full width of the RMR and SRO, a sealer plate is not necessary.  Trijicon's position is that if the user is unsure, use the sealer plate, and the plate is so thin, if it is used it doesn't make any difference to the thread engagement.  Trijicon's guide line on whether a sealer plate is required: https://www.trijicon.com/frequently-asked-questions/category/rmr-faqs

OPF-G, RMR is designed to sandwich the sight in its front and rear fence, we make the spacing as close to Trijicon's dimensions and tolerance as we can.  Though we hold a 0.003 tolerance, Trijicon's tolerance is 0.005.  In practical terms, this means while some RMRs will move inside the fences by a very small amount, others will need to be forced into the space.

Vibra-tite VC-3 is included with OPF-G, RMR.  Instructions can be found here: https://www.vibra-tite.com/wp-content/uploads/213_tds.pdf
Vibra-tite also provides a video on the application of VC-3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ux9gatMweo

A proper torque wrench in inch/lb increments is required to impart the correct torque to the plate to slide, and sight to plate screws.

HOLOSUN COMPATIBILITY:
Trjicon RMR and SRO share the same mounting footprint, OPF-G, RMR is also compatible with SRO.   However, due to the precise fit of the front and rear recoil lugs/fences that are designed to closely sandwich the sight, OPF-G, RMR is not guaranteed to work with all Holosun sights.  It will not work with 509T's RMR to 509T adapter plate.

We do not recommend Holosun 508T with our plates.  508T has a sloppy fit with OPF-G, RMR, the plate can't perform as designed (to hold the sight immobile.)

DO NOT use our supplied sight to plate screws if Holosun sights are used with OPF-G, RMR, you must use the short set of screws that came with your sights.

We recommend the torque wrench Vortex markets (we carry them, but that's not the reason) for its 1 in lb increment adjustment torque settings.

We will soon stop including the L wrench with all OPF products, L keys will become optional, we strongly suggest a proper torque wrench to impart the correct torque value.

As our friend Gary W Thomas II, AIA, NCARB has put it in engineering terms:

To understand the concerns with the GLOCK OEM MOS plate an explanation of the loads imparted upon the fasteners is required.  When the handgun is fired, the recoil generates a lateral load in the direction of the slide's movement.  This load is transferred through to the fasteners connecting the plate and optic. The GLOCK OEM plate does not maintain the optic in stasis thereby imparting dynamic lateral loads upon the fasteners at the fastener shear plane.  These loads cannot be resisted by the fasteners indefinitely and may result in mounting failure wherein the fastener shears at the shear plane.

Forward Controls Design's solution is to maintain the optic in a static position relative to the lateral load path by adding fore and aft recoil lugs about the optic.  The front lug resists the dynamic load imparted by the slide inertia during the slide's rearward travel (ejection cycle) while the rear lug resists the dynamic load imparted by the slide inertia during the slide's forward travel (feed cycle). Therefore, OPF-G, RMR  maintains the optic in a static position relative to the fasteners and thereby effectively reduces (if not deletes) the dynamic lateral load imparted upon the fasteners at the fastener shear plane.
