The FN 509 Tactical from FN America is a full-size, striker-fired, semi-automatic pistol that offers enhanced features and capabilities. This 9MM pistol, an extension of the FN 509 family, is based on FN's submission to the U.S. Army's Modular Handgun Trials. It includes significant improvements in design and function. The pistol features the company's patent-pending Low-Profile Optics Mounting System, which allows the platform to accept a wide range of commercially available miniature red dot (MRD) optics that co-witness with the suppressor-height night sights. This flexibility makes it adaptable to future optics releases without the need for direct milling of the slide.
